International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Powerlifting has announced that the 2018 IBSA Powerlifting and Bench Press World Championships will take place in Luxor, Egypt, from 13-16 November.

The competition will feature junior and masters categories and is expected to attract 70 athletes from 13 countries.

Nezam Dodel, Chairperson of the IBSA Powerlifting Committee, said: “We are very excited to host the powerlifting and bench press World Championships in Luxor.

“We are expecting a great competition as some of the world’s best athletes with visual impairments come to battle for titles at the highest level.

“My thanks go to the Egyptian Blind Sports Federation for hosting the event. I am sure they will provide a great platform from which lifters can reach their very best.”

Teams will begin arriving in Luxor on 10 November before two days of classification on 11-12. The Opening Ceremony then takes place on 13 November. Three days of competition follow before teams will be treated to a sight-seeing tour after competition ends.

Located on the east bank of river Nile, Luxor sits on the site of ancient Thebes which was the Pharoah’s capital during the height of their power.

Preliminary entries for Luxor 2018 are open until 1 September. The final entry deadline is on 5 October.

The last bench press World Championships were held in Alanya, Turkey, in 2016. Antalya, Turkey, hosted the previous powerlifting Worlds in 2014.
