Date: April 14, 2015

Category: Goalball

It was gold for the USA women's goalball team and the Turkish men's team at the Malmö Lady and Men Intercup 2015, played in the Swedish city from April 3rd to 5th.

The USA defeated Russia by the narrowest of margins (2-1) in the semi to reach the final, while Turkey enjoyed a convincing 3-0 victory over Japan.

The final could not have been more closely fought, but it was the USA who came out on top in the end by a single goal (3-2).

Top scorers in the 12-team women's tournament were Turkey's Sumeyye Özcan on 27, followed by Spain's Laura Belle (17) and Amanda Dennis from the USA (16).

Turkey made up for the disappointment of losing in the women's event by taking gold in the men's tournament, sweeping aside Belgium by a resounding margin of 11-2 in the process.

Ekrem Gondogdu was on target for the Turks, topping the goalscoring table on 27, followed by Finland's Jarno Mattila on 21.

Seven national teams took part in the men's event.
