Sweden extends invitation to two popular Goalball tournaments

Date: November 21, 2012

Category: Goalball

FIFH Malmö, Sweden, is known for hosting two great Goalball tournaments each year and 2013 will see this tradition continue.

In February the Malmö Open, a tournament for all teams of all levels, will take place. Later in the year the Malmö Lady Intercup, a prestigious tournament for female national teams, will be held.

Malmö Open

In 2013 the tournament will be on the weekend of 8th-10th February. The Malmö Open is a very big sports event for athletes with a disability and it will be a major international sports festival with world class skill and ability on display in fourteen different sports. One of the sports to feature is Goalball and the Goalball tournament will be the 18th edition.

Up to eighteen teams are welcome to participate. The teams will be divided into two different classes – Elite and Open. The tournament is not restricted to visually impaired players only – sighted players are also welcome. FIFH also welcomes not only male teams but also female and mixed teams, and the competition will be held in the same arena as previous years.

Online registration for the tournament will open on Monday, 26th November 2012. For more information and the entry form visit www.malmo-open.com.

Malmö Lady Intercup

To be held from 10th to 12th May, FIFH’s top-quality tournament for women’s national teams is the Malmö Lady Intercup. They invite your team to take part for what will now be the 14th time that this tournament has taken place. Twelve national teams will guarantee a high class event. Previously, this tournament has had teams participating from all continents.

They are planning to use the same sports hall as last year to be able to provide an even better arrangement. FIFH are currently working on the formal invitation which they are planning to publish in early December.

If your team is already interested in participating in the Lady Intercup or if you have any questions about this tournament or the Malmö Open, please send an e-mail to the tournament director Peter Björkstrand at [email protected].
