Showdown in the IBSA World Games

The IBSA World Games 2023, an international multi-sport event for athletes with visual impairments, is all set to showcase the thrilling sport of Showdown. Held at the University of Birmingham’s Teaching and Learning building from August 23rd to 25th, this exhilarating tournament will feature players from 14 countries across two continents competing in an event that serves as an equivalent to the Paralympic Games for Showdown. This is only the second time Showdown has been included in the IBSA World Games, the first being in 2015 in Seoul, South Korea.

Showdown, a sport specially designed for individuals with visual impairments, has been gaining popularity around the world for its unique blend of skill, precision, speed, and adrenaline. The game is played on a specially designed table by two players from opposing sides using flat, paddle-type bats. The aim of the game is to bat the ball off the side wall, along the table, under the centre screen, and into the opponent’s goal.

This year’s Showdown event at the IBSA World Games will witness 58 exceptional players, including 32 men and 26 women, giving their all to claim victory and make their respective Nations proud. Among them, 11 teams will be participating in enthralling team matches that are sure to provide spectators with moments of high drama and excitement.
