Category: General

The IBSA Executive Board, according to the new communication policy, decided to choose Mr. Pedro Figueiredo as the new Media Officer. He has the responsibility for media relations, management, and development of the IBSA brand.

Mr. Figueiredo has a Communication Sciences degree and 25 years of experience in sports journalism, having been a special correspondent several times in different sports at major tournaments. In recent years, he left the newsrooms to work as a press officer, and he is currently Media Advisor of the Board at the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth in Lisbon.

He also collaborated with the European Goalball Clubs Association on several projects, such as the podcast “Quiet, Please,” with Vilma Venckutonyte, and moderated three panels at the International Goalball Convention. Mr. Figueiredo is also an IBSA Goalball Referee (level 1).

IBSA Executive President, Mr. Sandro di Girolamo, sets a new pattern for inclusive communication regarding the IBSA image within the blind sports family and for all sports lovers: “We want to focus on a new path in the way we communicate. Not only on an institutional level, but also in terms of how the public perceives sports and their environments. We want closer relations with our members, reminding them that national federations have an important role in our ambition: constant information about our work and using all platforms at our disposal. Together, we can take all our sports to a global media stage. As far as communication is concerned, I believe Mr. Pedro Figueiredo will be the right professional to help us achieve our goals.”
