The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) has taken a significant step forward in ensuring the safety and quality of sports equipment used in competitions for blind and visually impaired athletes. The IBSA Executive Board has officially approved the establishment of a certification and standardization system for sports equipment and inventory.
This initiative aims to create a unified set of standards that will enhance athlete safety, improve the quality of equipment used in IBSA-sanctioned events, and strengthen IBSA’s collaboration with manufacturers and industry leaders. By implementing this system, IBSA seeks to ensure that all equipment meets the highest international standards, providing athletes with fair and consistent conditions for competition.
IBSA President Ilgar Rahimov emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The introduction of a certification and standardization system is a major milestone for IBSA and the entire blind sports community. It will not only safeguard our athletes but also establish IBSA as a leader in setting quality standards in adaptive sports.”
To develop and implement this system, IBSA will work with specialized organizations and explore potential funding opportunities, including sponsorship and partnership agreements. This initiative is expected to create new revenue streams for IBSA while benefiting the global blind sports movement.
Further details on the certification process and implementation timeline will be announced in the coming months. IBSA remains committed to advancing the integrity and development of blind sports worldwide.
