ASEAN Para Games begin in Kuala Lumpur

The 9th ASEAN Para Games KL 2017 have kicked off in spectacular fashion in the Malaysian capital with a stunning opening ceremony at the Kukit Jalil National Stadium.
The ASEAN Para Games bring together athletes from South-East Asia, and on this occasion eleven countries are taking part – Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Brunei, Cambodia, Thailand, Timor Leste, Vietnam and Myanmar.
Even before the official opening, play was underway today in the Goalball tournament, featuring seven men's teams and four women's teams. Today's results are as follows:

Competition in the Blind Football (Football 5-a-side) tournament commences tomorrow morning at 08:30 local time when defending ASEAN champions Malaysia takes on Thailand. Lao PDR and Vietnam meet after the opening game.

In addition to Goalball and Blind Football, blind and partially sighted athletes will also compete in a number of other sports on the KL 2017 programme, including chess, cycling, tenpin bowling, athletics and swimming.
