The four heavyweight categories closed the 2022 IBSA Judo Grand Prix Brazil at the Centro de Treinamento Paralímpico de São Paulo this Sunday. The Brazilian judokas, playing at home, were dominant in the competition, just like they were in the previous Grand Prix in Antalya and Nur-Sultan.
In the heavyweight category, Arthur Silva (-90kg) and Willians Arajo (+90kg) were the winners, but in the J2 class, the French Helios Latchoumanaya won the final against the rookie (this year) Benjamin Goodrich. The world’s number one in this category, Zhanbota Amanzhol, from Kazakhstan, got the bronze medal but may not have put his leadership in danger.
In the women’s dispute, two more gold medals for Brazilian judokas: Erika Zoaga (+70kg, J1) and Rebeca Silva (+70kg, J2). Rebeca finished this Grand Prix stage undefeated, collecting gold from all three tournaments until now. J2 was highlighted by Cuban Dailidavis Rodriguez, who defeated the competition in the -70kg category.
Like in the Grand Prix Turkey and Kazakhstan, Brazil was crowned at home as the most victorious country among the 21 participants in the São Paulo Grand Prix. 17 medals were awarded, six of them gold, three silver, and eight bronze.
Regarding worldwide competitions, the next and decisive meeting will be in November (from 7th to 9th), in Baku, for the World Championships.
