The road to the world title, for men and women, has been paved by tremendous games. Day 4 started with the first victory of the hosts’ men’s national team. Portugal defeated Canada (8-7) and got its first three points.

Right after, also in the men’s competition, Brazil faced Turkiye, and both were unbeaten. The Turkish national team started better and seemed to have operations under control. For quite some time, the score stayed at 4-1, but then the Brazilian star, Leomon Moreno, pushed his team to an unbelievable comeback, equalising at 6-6.

In the last minute, three incredible mistakes by the Turks led to an extraordinary victory (9-6) for Brazil. Belgium and Germany faced each other, and the score couldn’t be more unbalanced: 3-13 for the Germans. These were 3rd and 2nd, respectively, in the last World Championships, in Malmo (2018).

It could be the main course, but it was just a superb appetizer. The last European final of 2021 put Ukraine and Lithuania again face to face, this time in Matosinhos and for the World Championships. Lithuania was always ahead, but Ukraine managed to even the score (5-5) in the final minute.

Not content with that, the day concluded with the United States facing China in the men’s competition. They were also both unbeaten, and for quite some time the draw (3-3) appeared to be the right score. Nevertheless, the precision and strength of the Chinese throw got better in the final, enough to push the advantage to 4-7.

One last word for Iran. It is earning the precious points from the matches played so far and with goals enough to lead the group (D) with all these refered titans. This Sunday, Day 5, Iran will have to face China!

Regarding the women’s competition, Turkiye, Canada (group A), Israel, and Japan (group B) still count only victories in all the three matches played so far.

Denmark vs Turkyie and Israel vs USA were tremendous matches, but the Japanese victory over Brazil started some red alerts for the Samba girls; it was the third defeat of the Brazilian women’s national team and the ticket to Paris 2024 is almost a miracle and they didn’t played against Israel yet.
