Spain to compete in Rio 2016 blind football competition
Date: August 23, 2016
Following the CAS ruling earlier today regarding the suspension of the Russian Paralympic Committee, Spain has been confirmed as the country to replace the Russian team in the Football 5-a-side (blind football) competition at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games next month.
The International Paralympic Committee offered the Football 5-a-side slots to the Spanish Paralympic Committee by virtue of Spain's third-place finish at the 2015 IBSA Blind Football European Championships in Hereford, England, last year.
The Spanish Paralympic Committee confirmed in a press release this evening that it has accepted the invitation and will enter the Spanish blind football team for Rio 2016. Click here to read the press release (in Spanish).
