Romania to host Blind Football Europeans Division 2

Date: February 27, 2020

Category: Football

Romania has been confirmed as the host country for the IBSA Blind Football European Championships Division 2, which will take place later this year.

The championships, a qualifier for next year's European Championships Division 1, will be hosted by the National Paralympic Committee of Romania and the Romanian Association of the Blind in close partnership with the Romanian Football Federation.

In fact the tournament will be staged, as was the previous one, at the training base of the Romanian Football Federation in Mogosoaia, just outside the capital city.

Following requests from potential participating countries, the IBSA Football Committee decided to bring forward the tournament by one year to allow teams that qualify for the Division 1 championships to prepare properly.

This event is the third European Championships Division 2 in Blind Football, with Romania taking the title on both previous occasions. Georgia came second at the first tournament and Greece was the runner-up at the second edition earlier this year.

The championships are open to the bottom-placed two teams at the 2019 European Championships and all other teams not qualified for Division 1.

An entry form and further details will be released in the near future. For more information on the tournament, contact tournament director Sorin Lapadatu at [email protected] or [email protected].
