The 2021 IBSA Blind Football European Championships Division 2 are set to get underway in Bucharest, Romania, on 25 September, with all the action to be livestreamed as teams go for promotion to Division 1.
Romania will once again welcome teams for the competition, having hosted – and won – the previous two editions of the championships in 2017 (Bacau) and 2019 (Buftea, Bucharest).
The competition marks the return to the pitch in Europe after a two year hiatus.
Despite travel restrictions which mean many countries have not been able to enter their teams, four nations will compete in the competition – Albania, Greece, Poland and the hosts Romania. The top two teams will qualify for next year’s IBSA Blind Football European Championships Division 1, the showcase event for the sport in Europe.
Fierce competition is expected as teams attempt to wrest the title from the reigning champions and secure a slot in the top tier.
Play kicks off on 25 September with finals day on 28 September. A full match schedule will be available soon and all games will be streamed live at the IBSA YouTube channel.
The IBSA Blind Football European Championships Division 2 will be hosted by the Paralympic Committee of Romania and the Association of the Blind in Romania in close partnership with the Romanian Football Federation. The venue, as in 2019, will be the purpose-built blind football arena at the federation’s national training centre in Buftea, just outside Bucharest.
In an innovative arrangement, the local organisers will receive support from Santen Pharmaceuticals thanks to its sponsorship of the International Blind Football Foundation. This support ensures, among other benefits, live streaming of all the games.
