President’s Blog: IBSA Board meeting of November 15, 2024

A number of topics were discussed on future developments and decisions made or ratified.

Vice President Joe Walsh reported that significant progress was being made with the IPC Classification team about the possible centralization of visual impairment classification within a Unit established to determine policy and manage VI classifications assignments and operations.

The Board officially recognized Tashkent, Uzbekistan, as the preferred host city for the IBSA 2027 World Games. The IBSA Administration has been authorized to engage with NPC Uzbekistan to finalize contractual arrangements.

The meeting also agreed the appointments of the Chairs to the IBSA sports committees normally until the EB Meeting post LA 2028:

  • – IBSA Goalball Sports Committee – Michael Dennis (Montenegro)
  • – IBSA Judo Sports Committee – Janos Tardos (Hungary)
  • – IBSA Football Sports Committee – Fabio Vasconcelos (Brazil)
  • – IBSA Chess Sports Committee – Sorin Lapadatu (Romania)
  • – IBSA Showdown Sports Committee – Zdenek Barlok (Czech Republic)
  • – IBSA Powerlifting Sports Committee – Tinatin Revazashvilli (Georgia)
  • – IBSA Ninepin Bowling Sports Committee – Ruza Markesic (Croatia)

The President thanks the previous Chairs and wishes the new appointees every success.

The Executive Board also decided to merge the sports committees of ninepin and tenpin bowling into one committee. In addition the formal confirmation of a sports committee for Torball was suspended for one year to analyze the activities of the sport, to undertake a study of the status of Torball among the Members and make a final decision on this sport in due course.

The resignation of the Secretary General was formally accepted and the President was directed to pass on the thanks of the EB for her past service.

The Executive Director Rufat Hajili provided information on IBSA’s current financial status as of November 1 of this year which showed all areas currently on budget. He also confirmed that he had secured public liability insurance for IBSA, something which had been neglected by previous administrations.
