On the eve of the 2024 Paralympics: IBSA President’s appeal

Dear IBSA family and particularly our athletes, coaches and volunteers,
As we approach the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, my heart swells with anticipation and inspiration for what lies ahead. Over the past year, IBSA has made significant strides towards reclaiming its former glory, a testament to our collective journey. While challenges have tested our resolve, we’ve also celebrated numerous triumphs. The establishment of a professional staff team, separate from governance, and the unwavering dedication of our volunteer leaders mark pivotal achievements in this endeavor.
In Paris, we will witness the culmination of these efforts – a moment where hard work, dedication, and passion converge. Our athletes embody these qualities daily, and it is through them that we will shine on the global stage. IBSA will proudly present our three Paralympic sports – blind football, goalball, and para judo – but the talents of blind athletes will also illuminate swimming, athletics, and beyond. This event transcends mere competition; it symbolizes our shared human spirit and our athletes’ steadfast pursuit of excellence.
As the Paralympic Games begin remember, that beyond the medals and records, the bonds you forge there will prevail, and the stories of perseverance and courage will inspire countless others around the world.
To all blind and visually impaired athletes selected for Paris 2024 Paralympic Games: you are Paralympians and you are there to ‘excite and inspire the world’. Good luck to all of you.
Looking ahead, IBSA will embark on its journey of review and continued reformation. In the autumn as the Parisian cheers die away, IBSA will undertake a total review of our constitution; explore rebranding to be a more modern face of a modern IBSA. This work will require the involvement and contribution of you all, every member and partner will shape that exciting future bringing our renewed vision, mission and ambition to parts of the world yet to benefit from what IBSA has to offer.
Together, like our athletes we will continue to push the boundaries of what is possible, fostering a world where inclusivity and excellence in sports are celebrated by all.
With heartfelt gratitude and anticipation,
Ilgar Rahimov
IBSA President
