Meet the 2022 IBSA Goalball World Championships’ draw

The Porto Cruise Terminal hosted the 2022 IBSA Goalball World Championships draw. The event took place this Saturday evening, September 10th, in the city of Matosinhos, exactly where the closing ceremony will be held on December 16th.

For the first time, women’s competition will be having 16 national teams playing for the title, so history will be different in Portugal. Women’s World Championship will be taking groups A and B, while men’s World Championship will be put in groups C and D.

Vasco Pinho, city councillor for Matosinhos Sport, took the balls from pots 1 and 2, while Bulent Kimyon, IBSA Goalball Referee World Coordinator, took the names from pot 3. This was the result of the women’s draw:

For the men’s draw, three national coaches were selected, all of them present in the 2022 IBSA Goalball World Championship: the German Goalball Head Coach, Stefan Wiel, to take the names out of pot 1; the Ukraine Goalball Head Coach, Fedir Dubrovin, to take the names out of pot 2; and the Portugal Goalball Head Coach, Márcia Ferreira, to take the names out of pot 3. The final result was the following:

The 2022 IBSA Goalball World Championships will have Alexey Baryaev as Technical Director and Márcia Ferreira as Tournament Director.
