Match day 3 round up from the IBSA Blind Football European Championships

Date: September 20, 2019

Category: Football

Yesterday saw lots of action and a good few goals at the IBSA Blind Football European Championships in Rome, Italy.

Fourteen goals were scored in yesterday's four games at the Euros, hosted by FISPIC at the Tre Fontane Paralympic Training Centre in the Italian capital.

In the first match it was Belgium who took the spoils after an exciting encounter with Romania. The Romanian team took the lead twice, but the Belgian Blind Devils, as the team is known, fought back to equalise and eventually took all three points thanks to a stunning free kick from Vanderborght with six minutes to go.

Next up were Germany and Greece, and it was Germany who came out on top by three goals to move up to fourth place in Group B.

Russia and England took the field for a crunch Group B match. Russia took an early lead through Denis Egorov in the fifth minute and was close to extending its lead before Turnham equalised for England with six minutes remaining on the clock.

Spain, former multiple European Champions, defeated hosts Italy 4-0 in the final match of the day. Italy found it difficult after losing some key players through injury and Spain was three up at half time. One more goal in the second half secured the win and first place in Group B and the Spanish team will fancy its chances of qualifying for the semi-finals.
