Slovenian goalball team Karantanija is the winner of the first Middle European Goalball League (MEGL).

Match day 4 and the play-offs for the MEGL took place last weekend in Pecs in Hungary, with two teams each from Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary competing.

Karantanija defeated Hungary 1 by eight goals to two to reach the final, while Hungary 2 beat Storm Clouds (Slovenia) by the narowest of margins (7-6) in the other semi-final.

There was only one team in the running in the final though, and Karantanija ran out easy winners by 10 goals to nil.

Hungary 1 salvaged some local pride by beating Storm Clouds 5-2 in the 3rd-4th place play-off. Croatia came fifth and Zagreb finished sixth.

Karantanija finished the MEGL on 36 points following nine wins and three losses throughout the event. Hungary 2 won 10 and lost 5 to finish on 30 points.

Top scorers in the tournament were Pirc Dejan (Karantanija) with an amazing 119 goals, followed by Ledinek Matej and Mihajlovic Zlatko (both Storm Clouds) on 76 and 57.
