Category: Judo
Day 1 at the 2023 IBSA Judo Grand Prix Portugal brought the decisions for the first medals at the Complexo Municipal dos Desportos in the city of Almada.
Brazil led the light weight categories with five medals and had its national anthem played at the opening medal ceremony for Elielton de Oliveira’s (J1-60 kg) gold medal. His countryman Harlley Arruda could have gotten the second gold medal, but the German Lennart Sass won by ippon in the final.
The most balanced final of the day came in the men’s J2 -60kg category between Anuar Sariyev (KAZ) and Nukri Migrijanashvili (GEO). Only after 5′ 47″ in the golden score and on the third shido for the Georgian judoka was it decided. The second gold medal for Kazakhstan came in the next category (J2 -73kg) for Olzhas Orazalyuly, this time by ippon in regular time.
