Iraq won the Goalball competition in the 4th West Asian Para Games

Date: February 16, 2024

Category: Goalball

The Goalball competition at the 4th West Asian Para Games was held in the city of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, between January 26th and February 3rd, under supervision and organised by the West Asia Para Federation (WAPF).

The seven-day paragames included seven Paralympic sports, and one of them was Goalball, at the UAE Visual Impairment Association Sports Hall.

Six national teams took part in this event: Saudi Arabia, Oman, Iraq, Qatar, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates.

It is worth noting that the Iraqi team had three gold medals and a first-place ranking three times in Goalball competitions during previous versions of the West Asian Para Games, as follows: 1st Para Games Khorfakkan 2017, 3rd Para Games Bahrain 2022, and this version 4th Para Games Sharjah 2024, in which the gold medal of Goalball in the 2nd Para Games Amman 2019 was won by the Qatar team.

There have been many previous years of cooperation between IBSA Goalball and WAPF during the previous 4 Para Games and other previous tournaments, such as Ajman 2023, aside from the qualification referee clinics, which have been organised by WAPF and supervised and approved by IBSA Goalball.

The 4th West Asian Para Games Goalball competition was recognised and approved by IBSA Goalball chairperson Mrs. Aurora Zanolin (ITA) who was acting as Technical Director, and Mr. Ali Al-Darsony (KSA), as Competition Manager, along with eight international-level referees and five national-level referees.
