The IBSA Judo Committee has welcomed the news from the International Paralympic Committee regarding medal events and slot allocation for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

The committee has also issued a challenge to all visually impaired judokas to work hard to realise their dream of competing at the Paralympic Games.

The quota update for Tokyo gives judo six slots more than at Rio 2016, taking the total to 138. There are 80 slots for men and 58 for women. The key changes are:

– fewer slots for male judokas in -100 and +100 kgs (tens lots each);

– an increase in the number of female judokas in -48, -52, -57, -63, -70 kgs., now featuring ten judokas per medal event;

– an increase in the number of B1 judokas. 

So now there are more chances for female and B1 judokas to reach their dream to take part in the Paralympic Games. The IPC Governing Body has decided to increase the number of B1 judokas and the female judokas.

IBSA and IBSA member organisations have 3 years more to prepare our judokas for the Tokyo Games.
