IBSA Goalball world rankings – July update

Date: June 29, 2014

Category: Goalball

Above you can find the links to the IBSA Goalball world rankings as of the end of June, 2014. These rankings have been released earlier than normal to have the most accurate rankings available during the 2014 IBSA Goalball World Championships.

Men
On the mens side we have a new number one. Brazil must be now one of the favourites for the IBSA Goalball World Championships after taking this top spot.

This wasn’t the only change at the top, the shuffling amongst the top continues. Turkey is now placed at 2.

Canada has also moved up a notch to five to give a boost just before they start their campaign in Espoo.

Lithuania, USA and Spain also enjoyed a small rise within the top 10.

Looking a bit further down, Germany is the recipient of a great rise from 21 to 12 after their great result in Malmö. Germany was not the only team to benefit from a good result in Malmö, Israel did as well. They rose a massive 19 places to now be at 22.

Women
Once again there was a little bit of shuffling around within the top 10. Russia moved back up to 5 and Brazil also followed their move by rising one spot to 6. Sweden was the victim of these rises because they fell back two spots to now be at 7.

There was also a shock entry into the top 10. That is Guatemala who has jumped up to number 9. This is the result of good results at regional competitions. This means that other nations in the same region have also had good jumps. El Salvador is an example; they are now within the top 20 at 18.

At this point, we choose to remind you that the rankings are still in the development stage and over the next three years there may still be some oddities.

There was also rankings debuts for more countries out of the Americas and Asia. Nicaragua is appearing for the first time at 22. Meanwhile Iraq comes in for the first time at 25 and Mongolia at 36.
