IBSA Goalball World Rankings – December 2013 Update

Date: December 14, 2013

Category: Goalball

Above are the links to the full IBSA Goalball world rankings for 1 December 2013. Please note that these rankings were calculated prior to the 2013 IBSA Goalball African Championships. These results will be part of the first ranking update for 2014.

Men
Following the conclusion of the 2013 IBSA Goalball European Championships Men & Women A and the 2013 IBSA Goalball Asia/Pacific Championships we now have a new number one.

Iran, the Asia/Pacific champions has ascended 13 spots to be the new number one. This has resulted in Brazil being pushed back to the second position.

Consistent play from the Turkish men has also seen them move up to number three. This is largely due to their number three finish at the IBSA Goalball European Championships and last year’s Paralympic Games.

Turkey and Iran were not the only newcomers to the top five. China has also leap frogged 10 positions to be now number four.

Despite Lithuania being crowned European Champions, round robin losses during the championships cost them valuable ranking points and this has resulted in them dropping two spots.

Spain however, the runners up to Lithuania have now entered the top 10 at 9.

Looking a bit further down, Japan and Australia moved into the top 20 to 12 and 18 respectively, based on their strong performances at the Asia/Pacific Championships.

Fellow Asia/Pacific member Thailand also enjoyed a good rise along with Slovenia who recovered from their November drop.

There were also a number of countries who debuted including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Mongolia.

Women
The men are not the only ones to have a new number one. Current World Champions, Asia/Pacific Champions and Paralympic silver medalists, China, are the new world number one.

The women may be enjoying a new number one but in comparison to the men, there hasn’t been too much movement.

The only newcomer to the top 5 is the newly crowned European Champion, Russia. They have jumped up to number 4.

The top 10 has remained largely the same apart from one new nation. Australia is debuting in the top 10 at number 10.

Iran is also making a debut of their own. They are debuting on the world ranking and starting out at place 16.
