IBSA Goalball decision regarding head protection
Date: September 18, 2014
Category: Goalball
IBSA Goalball received the request regarding the use of a helmet during play.
Following the request, it was agreed to observe the player and to see if the additional headwear led to any issues during play or excessive delays in game due to eyeshades and equipment needing to be checked prior to the begin of play or during a substitution. Following the observation, the matter was also discussed within the IBSA Goalball subcommittee.
It was determined that the use of the helmet did not affect the match in any significant matter.
Therefore, it was agreed to allow this one particular player to use the additional equipment during play commencing 20 August 2014. This decision for this one particular athlete will be reviewed after twelve months from the initial decision.
