Yesterday saw the first day's play at the IBSA Goalball American Championships in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Eight men's teams and six women's teams are in the running for the title of American Championships and a slot at next year's IBSA Goalball World Championships in Malmo, Sweden.

In the men's event, Brazil and Argentina lead pool A on three points following wins over Peru and Venezuela. United states and Canada are tied at the top of pool B on three points each thanks to victories over Mexico and Costa Rica.

In the women's pool, United States, Brazil and Canada both registered two wins and lead the group. Mexico, Peru and Costa Rica will be looking to open their accounts in today's games.
