IBSA Football Committee releases updated ranking table

Date: January 9, 2017

Category: Football

The IBSA Football Committee has today published its updated world blind football ranking table for the B1 category.

Brazil stays top of the table thanks to its gold medal at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, while Argentina remains in second place. China overtakes Spain for third place and Turkey wins a spot in the top five, rising from sixth place in the previous ranking.

The big movers in the top ten are Iran, moving up from ninth to sixth as a result of its silver medal performance in Rio, and Morocco, who rocket into the top slots in seventh position, up from 14th in the old rankings.

The table now features 42 teams, up one from the July 2016 table, with Laos joining the ranks.

The updated rankings include points gained during the second half of 2016, notably at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, while ranking points won in 2012 are removed from the calculations.
