The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Football Committee has announced an exciting new addition to its calendar – the IBSA Blind Football Intercontinental Cup.

The Intercontinental Cup is designed to give teams who do not qualify for the World Championships via regional Championships another opportunity to compete on the international stage.

The first edition is planned for 2023 and the Committee is inviting bids to host.

The 2023 IBSA Blind Football Intercontinental Cup will feature 10 teams including the host and nine other countries who compete at regional Championships set to take place in 2022 but do not secure a Worlds spot.

“We are delighted to see how blind football is growing all around the world. By organising this new event, we would like to provide national teams more opportunities for international participation,” Elias Mastoras, IBSA Football Chairperson, said.

As well as the eventual hosts, two teams each from the 2022 Americas, European, Asian and African Championships will secure a spot at the first Intercontinental Cup, whilst one team will advance from the Central American Championships.
