IBSA Blind Football travels this weekend to Vienna, Austria, to help develop football for totally blind players (B1) in the country.

As part of the UEFA-backed IBSA Blind Football Development Project Europe, an experienced national blind football coach will conduct training sessions with local players over the weekend, teaching them the basic skills of the game. Local coaches will also be trained in working with blind players.

Austria's newly-established blind football programme will receive balls and eyeshades free of charge to kickstart its activities, and Austrian Bundesliga club Rapid Vienna is involved in the initiative.

The Austrian B1 programme joins an already successful partially sighted football (B2/B3) programme in the country. Austria competed at the 2014 IBSA Partially Sighted Football European Championships in La Spezia, Italy, finishing in seventh place, and hosted a five-nations international friendly tournament featuring IBSA World Champions Ukraine, England, France and Ireland in Steinbrunn in November last year.
