Date: February 14, 2024
Category: Goalball
The IBSA Goalball Sport Committee announces that the Brazilian women’s Goalball national team has the last Paralympic slot available for Paris 2024.
The decision was taken under Article 47 of the Goalball Rules and Regulations regarding Qualifying Standards, considering that the 2023 IBSA Goalball African Women’s Championship had only three teams, not reaching the four participants required by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
Here are the eight women’s teams qualified for Paris 2024:
WOMEN | COUNTRY | QUALIFICATION METHOD |
1 | TUR | 2022 World Goalball Championships (1st) |
2 | KOR | 2022 World Goalball Championships (2nd) |
3 | CAN | 2023 Americas Regional Qualifier (1st) |
4 | CHN | 2023 Asia/Pacific Regional Qualifier (1st) |
5 | ISR | 2023 Europe Regional Qualifier (2nd) |
6 | JPN | 2023 IBSA Goalball Paralympic Ranking Tournament (2nd) |
7 | BRA | 2023 IBSA Goalball Paralympic Ranking Tournament (3rd) |
8 | FRA | Host Country |
Israel got the European slot after winning a silver medal at the continental tournament because the winner, Turkiye, had already qualified for the world title.
Brazil got the last slot available through the IBSA Paralympic Goalball Ranking Tournament – the 2023 IBSA World Games – being the bronze medal because the winner, China, was already qualified for being Asian champion, and the silver medal, Japan, got the slot of the winner of the referred competition.
