Goalball African Championships to conclude in Ghana

The 2021 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Goalball African Championships will conclude in Cape Coast, Ghana, on Friday (10 December) with teams going for coveted medals.
Defending champions Algeria head to the gold medal match unbeaten in the men’s tournament after another solid display against Cameroon in their semi-final on Thursday (9 December).
Eight goals came for veteran Samir Belhouchat, all in the first half. Djalal Boutadjine also got in on the action with three goals of his own.
The pair joined forces to take a mercy win of 11-1. Andre Patrick Andeme got the lone goal for Cameroon.
Algeria will face Egypt for gold after the Egyptians secured an 11-1 victory over Ghana, also on Thursday.
Sayed Awwad opened the scoring for Egypt and was followed by Omar Mohamed. The duo went onto to share the majority of the 11 goals with five each.
Ghana and Cameroon are to play for bronze.
In the women’s Egypt will play Ghana for the final podium spot or a place in the final. As the women’s tournament features four teams, the match will also see the winner progress to the gold medal game. Defending champions Algeria have already secured their shot on the title.

14:15 – semi-final/bronze – Egypt v Ghana (women’s)
15:30 – bronze – Egypt v Cameroon (men’s)
16:45 – gold medal match – Algeria v Egypt or Ghana (women’s)
18:00 – gold medal match – Algeria v Egypt (men’s)
The 2021 IBSA Goalball African Championships have featured a record ten teams from the region. The winners will qualify for the 2022 IBSA Goalball World Championships in Hangzhou, China, in June.
