Ghana to host four-nations goalball tournament in Cape Coast
Date: December 12, 2019
Category: Goalball
The event is being organised by the Ghana Blind Sports Association in partnership with International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Goalball.
It follows on from previous workshops held in other African countries since 2016, but Ghana is hosting for the first time. Around 50 participants are expected to attend.
As well as Ghana, teams from South Africa, Ivory Coast and Nigeria will play games at the Cape Coast UCC Sports Hall.
IBSA Goalball’s Sport Director Alexey Baryaev and Secretary John Potts will help carry out training for referees and coaches which will take place before the tournament.
This will cover the theory and practice of goalball, focusing on the rules, team preparation and coaching and officiating techniques and procedures.
IBSA Goalball will also hand out balls, eyeshades and educational materials for teams to take away, helping them to build their programmes when they return home.
The activities are being supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Sports Authority and the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana.
The latest workshops follow on from those held in South Africa, Uganda, Ivory Coast and Algeria in previous years.
