Date: May 29, 2017

Category: Goalball

The Ghana Blind Sports Association commemorated this year’s African Union Day (AU day – 25th May) with fan games at the University of Ghana Legon campus involving the Greater Accra blind sports and the Eastern region blind sports teams.

The visually impaired athletes engaged in goalball competition between male and female teams. The men's team from the Eastern region Blind Union sports defeated Greater Accra blind Union sports team 9-7, and in the women's division Greater Accra pipped Easter region by 6-5.

The activities form part of measures to popularize the sport in Ghana and also prepare the regions ahead of the national goalball and athletics championship to be held in Cape Coast in August.

According to president Eric Kissi, the Ghana Blind Sports Association is planning to develop other sports such as blind football, showdown, tandem cycling, athletics and swimming. “You remember two blind persons represented Ghana at the All African Games in Brazzaville, and I hope to develop more athletes in my agenda Tokyo 2020 project.”, he said.
