The organisers of the European Universities Games are inviting judoka with visual impairments to compete for the first time when the 2020 edition takes place in Belgrade, Serbia, from 12-25 July.

Judo will be one of two Para sports on the programme, alongside 19 able-bodied sports. Around 6,000 athletes in total are expected to compete.

Serbia prides itself on being a country that produces top-level sportspeople. The country has a strong tradition in sports like basketball, volleyball, handball and water polo. Tennis player Novak Djokovic is one of the most famous Serbian athletes.

The European University Games are the flagship event of the European University Sports Association (EUSA).

The EUSA is an umbrella non-governmental non-profit organisation, working in the field of university sport in Europe. It links national university sport federations, universities, teams, individual competitors, volunteers and other partners in over 40 countries throughout Europe.

Belgrade 2020 will take place in 28 training and competition venues across Belgrade.

These include the Stark Arena – the biggest arts and entertainment venue in the Balkans – which will stage the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and volleyball, handball and basketball.

The judo competition for athletes with visual impairments will coincide with the final day of sighted judo on 19 July.

Participants of the European University Games are universities and similar institutions with the status of an institution of higher education recognised by an appropriate national authority of their country.
