Central America Goalball Championships underway

Date: December 3, 2014

Category: Goalball

Six male and six female goalball nations have come together in Nicaragua to compete for the title of Central American goalball champion.

Hosts Nicaragua is joined in each division by Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama.

These championships are a great opportunity for nations from the region to compete against other developing goalball nations.

However, the tournament is not only a chance for the players to get experience and develop but also a chance for officials and coaches from these nations to learn. Prior to the tournament starting a seminar was held for coaches and officials with those from Brazil being the teachers. Brazil has top level referees and the top male team at the moment so these nations from central America were definitely learning from the best.

Following the theory it was time for practice. The matches started on Monday 1 December and the tournament will run through until Saturday 6 December.

Match one day one was a tight affair between the female teams from El Salvador and Honduras but it was the latter who just won by the smallest of margins, 10-9.

The day featured other close results like that between the men from Guatemala and Panama. This one went to Guatemala 9-8.

We wish all involved the best of luck for the rest of the championships and we look forward to seeing who takes the titles home.
