Brazil won the gold medal at the London 2012 Paralympic Games blind football tournament following a 2-0 victory over France in the final, played at the Riverbank Arena last Saturday.
A first-half penalty by Gabriel da Silva and a second-half own goal by Baron were enough to secure top stop on the podium and a third consecutive gold medal for the Brazilian team at the Paralympic Games in the blind football competition.
France improved on their fifth-place finish at the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games – they failed to qualify for Beijing 2008 – and had to settle for silver.
Spain defeated arch rivals Argentina on penalties to take the bronze medal, a turn-around from the result four years ago in China.
Final standings:
Gold medal: Brazil
Silver medal: France
Bronze medal: Spain
4th: Argentina
5th: China
6th: Iran
7th: Great Britain
8th: Turkey
