Blind Football: Pescara Training Camp

Date: June 7, 2022

Category: Blind football

This week, in the time between the end of the first Women’s European Championship and the beginning of Men’s European Championship, is taking place the IBSA Training Camp.

22 participants (17 women, 5 men) from Italy, Belgium, Spain, Sweden, England, Austria, Turkey, Germany, Denmark, and Greece are gathered in Città Sant’Angelo to improve their knowledge of blind football.

The Camp is organized into different “lessons”: an introduction “What is IBSA?”; theoretical lessons; practical lessons on a blind football pitch; and friendly matches played by the participants to experience what was learned. The English and the German Women´s Blind Football national teams, which discussed the female title last weekend, were also invited to attend the event, to share everyone´s experiences.

The camp is organized in parallel to the IBSA Women´s Blind Football European Championship and has the participation of nine visually impaired female players; two female coaches; two female goalkeepers; one female physiotherapist; four referees (2 men and 2 women); and three IBSA facilitators.

Elias Mastoras, IBSA Blind Football Subcommittee Chairperson, said: “Putting female blind football first was a priority for the restart of football after the COVID restrictions for the IBSA Football Subcommittee. We are very happy to have all these female players and officials together from 10 different countries.”
