Blind Football Europeans Division 2 postponed until 2021

Date: July 27, 2020

Category: Football

The IBSA Football Committee has relunctantly taken the decision to postpone the IBSA Blind Football European Championships Division 2, originally scheduled for October this year.

The decision was adopted in consultation with local partners the National Paralympic Committee of Romania and the Romanian Association of the Blind, and as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and uncertainty concerning the number of countries which would be able to commit to taking part.

The championships, scheduled to be held in Bucharest, Romania, have been put back until early October 2021, with exact dates to be confirmed as soon as possible.

A spokesperson for the committee explained: "We're very disappointed we had to take this decision, but there was sadly no alternative. It wasn't clear if we were going to be able to stage and meaningful and viable event given the current situation and the fact that many countries would be reluctant to enter a team."

"The European Championships Division 2 have become one of the main events on the European blind football calendar and it is a shame we have had to postpone, but we feel it was for the best and we're sure the competition will be stronger and better next year. We look forward to announcing the new dates in the near future."
