Blind Football Central American Championships Guatemala 2017 – match day 2 report

Costa Rica and Guatemala stay on top of the group-stage table after match day 2 at the IBSA Blind Football Central American Championships in Guatemala.

The two teams drew 1-1 in a tight match today, with Molina equalising the match in the second half for Guatemala following Contreras’ first-half goal for the Costa Ricans.

In today’s opening match, Honduras bounced back from defeat at the hands of the hosts yesterday to beat El Salvador, who were making their debut in the tournament, 7-0. Oliva was the outstanding player for the Hondurans, scoring four goals.

In the third match, El Salvador, in their second game of the day, came from behind to beat Nicaragua 2-1. Rivas and Barahona were on target in the second half to turn the tables on the Nicaraguans, who took the lead thanks to an early strike from Pérez.

Costa Rica and Guatemala both sit on four points, with the Costa Ricans on top on goal difference (+6) from Guatemala (+1). Honduras is third on three points (+6), El Salvador fourth (3 points, -6), and Nicaragua is fifth after two defeats.

Fredy Oliva (Honduras) leads the goal-scoring on five.

The IBSA Blind Football Central American Championships Guatemala 2017, hosted by the Guatemalan Committee for the Blind and Deaf, are the first ever official championships in the region. The winning team will qualify for the IBSA Blind Football World Championships in Madrid, Spain, in June next year.
