Over 100 athletes and support personnel from 15 countries benefitted from anti-doping outreach activities at the IBSA Judo World Cup in Atyrau, Kazakhstan, from 9-10 September.

Judoka had the chance to visit an educational booth during the competition.

It was run by the Kazakhstan National Anti-Doping Agency (NADO) and National Paralympic Committee (NPC). Support also came from the IBSA Judo Committee and the IBSA Anti-Doping Committee.

Information was given to athletes and team officials as well as the chance to take part in the WADA quiz. The results were then used by educators to ensure judoka and officials had the correct advice.

Hela Kouki Chaouachi, the Chairperson of the IBSA Anti-Doping Committee, said: “We were very pleased with the numbers of athletes and team officials who came to the booth in Atyrau, keen to get more information about anti-doping. The figures mean that athletes and team members from more than half of the competing countries took part.

“It is really important for them to have access to support that helps them make the right choices. The knowledge they took away with them will hopefully help them to train and compete clean and understand why it is so important to do so.

“IBSA Judo will be running lots more of these activities at future competitions as part of IBSA’s commitment to clean sport.

“I would also like to thank the Kazakhstan NADO and NPC for their assistance in implementing a complete and compliant anti-doping programme during the competition.”

The 2018 IBSA Judo World Cup attracted more than 100 athletes from 22 countries. It was the last World Cup ahead of the 2018 World Championships in Odivelas, Portugal, from 16-18 November, where more educational activities will take place.
