Algerian Goalball Teams Poised To Retain Their African Championship Titles

​Semifinal matches are now in the record books as the 2017 IBSA Goalball African Championships (Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt) heads to the final matches.  Algeria, current men's and women's African champions, have simply been unstoppable throughout this tournament.  Both teams are undefeated to this point.  Both teams are determined to retain their African titles and heading home with zero losses.
 

 

In today's first semifinal match, Algeria played a spirited Morocco team.  While the Moroccans played a strong game, they were simply no match today for the Algerians.  Algeria's Samir Belabouchet lit up the scoreboard with 6 goals, leading his team to the gold medal match with an 11-1 win. 
 

 

In the other men's semifinal match, the home team, Egypt, met the enthusiastic and talented team from Rwanda.  Although the teams played a close game in the first half, Egypt began a scoring streak early in the sescond half, leaving Rwanda falling behind in the scoring.  The trip of Ashour Abdel Fattah, Mohamed Said and Mohamed Abdel Fattah each contributed 5 goals to Egypt's 15-5 win over Rwanda.  Egypt advaces to the gold medal match against Algeria.
 

 

In the women' semifinal match, Egypt and Kenya battled for the right to advance to the final match against Algeria.  Egypt kept steady pressure on Kenya and will advance to the gold medal match beating Kenya by a 13-3 margin.
