Date: December 8, 2013

Category: Goalball

Final day of play at the 2013 IBSA Goalball African Championships saw the winner crowned and two nations qualify for the 2014 IBSA Goalball World Championships.

Sadly the final day of competition started with a forfeit from the host nation, Kenya. They were forced to pull out of their 5th / 6th playoff against Kenya because of injuries. This handed Ghana the 5th place in the tournament.

Next up were the semi-finals. The two winners of these matches would qualify for the 2014 IBSA Goalball World Championships. Both teams stormed their way to Espoo next year.

Algeria demolished Morocco 10-0 to take their place in Finland. Egypt was nearly as convincing over Rwanda 11-1.

After a break the bronze medal match was played. Morocco got revenge on Rwanda for their round robin lost and defeated Rwanda 13-3 in what was a good game despite the score line.

In the gold medal match, Algeria cemented themselves as the top nation in Africa after defeating Egypt 12-2. Mokrane Mohamed was the hero for the Algerian team. He scored the opening goal for Algeria and would score a further eight in the final. The remaining three goals were scored by Labri Abdel.

Final Standings:
1 – Algeria
2 – Egypt
3 – Morocco
4 – Rwanda
5 – Ghana
6 – Kenya
