Termizhan Daulet grabbed gold for hosts Kazakhstan at the 2019 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Judo Asian and Oceanian Championships in Atyrau on Friday (6 September).

Competing in the men’s up to 73kg, Daulet improved on his silver medal from two years ago in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The win was made even more impressive by the fact that Daulet finished ahead of Uzbekistan’s world champion Feruz Sayidov.

The home judoka overcame China’s Puqi Wu in the final to hand Kazakhstan a gold.
Sayidov did still finish on the podium with third. Japan’s Takamasa Nagai put in a great performance less than one year ahead of his home Paralympic Games, also taking bronze.

Uzbekistan topped the individual medals table with seven golds from men’s and women’s competitions across Friday and Saturday.

Paralympic champion Sherzod Namozov kept his winning run at regional Championships going in the men’s up to 66kg.

Namozov is unbeaten since 2014 and is also a Worlds bronze medallist. He beat Kazakhstan’s Anuar Sariyev to the top of the podium in Atyrau.

Elsewhere in the medals there was an impressive performance from Japan’s Takaaki Hirai.

He ended the hopes of Kazakhstan’s world champion Olzhas Orazalyuly to advance to the
final four. Despite then being beaten by eventual champion Sariyev, Harai went on to win bronze. Orazalyuly settled for third.

A top quality field in the men’s over 100kg was topped by Uzbekistan’s World Championships bronze medallist Shirin Sharipov.

After emerging the victor against South Korea’s Gwan Geun Choi, the Paralympic title holder from the up to 100kg, Sharipov then had to face the world champion for gold.

Iran’s Mohammadreza Kheirollahzadeh was hoping to double-up on his win from the 2018 Worlds but Sharipov had other ideas, edging him out.

Choi managed to seal third place in the repechage. Kento Masaki took another medal for Japan with bronze.

In the men’s up to 81kg Davurkhon Karomatov claimed Uzbekistan’s latest win ahead of Japan’s Aramitsu Kitazono. Iran’s Mohammed Ali Shanani was third alongside China’s Yurong Wu.

Uzbekistan’s final men’s gold came courtesy of Sharif Khalilov in the up to 100kg. Japanese teammates Yoshikazu Matsumoto and Shinsuke Ishikawa rounded-off the podium.

The gold rush continued for Uzbekistan in the women’s with a further three golds.

Savinch Salaeva successfully defended her title in the up to 52kg ahead of China’s Yanqing Li. Thailand’s Methini Wongchomphu was third.

Vasila Aliboeva also secured her second consecutive Asian gold in the up to 70kg. China’s Ping Wang took silver.

Parvina Samandarova completed Uzbekistan’s haul in the up to 57kg. Indonesia’s Melinda Artia Garini was second.

Iran will leave Atyrau with two Asian titles after Reza Gholami and Vahid Nouri impressed on the tatami.

Gholami, competing in the men’s up to 66kg, led Chinese Tapei’s Shao-Hao Chang onto the podium. Japan’s Yujiro Seto and Kazakhstan’s Azamat Turumbetov were third.

Nouri was triumphant in the up to 90kg ahead of Uzbekistan’s Shukhrat Boboev.

Kazakhstan picked up another medal via Zhanbota Amanzhol in third. China’s Yanchen Li also collected bronze.

Hongyu Wang was the victor in the women’s over 100kg for China, beating Kazakhstan’s Zarina Baibatina.

Yue Wang also topped the women’s up to 63kg for China. Nafisa Sheripboeva was second.
Chinese Tapei’s Kai Lin Lee emerged on top in the women’s up to 48kg. Uzbekistan’s Lobar Khurramova secured silver as Paralympic champion Li Liqing was third.

The 2019 IBSA Judo Asian and Oceanian Championships conclude on Sunday with the team competitions.
