Date: November 9, 2021

Category: Football

The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Football Committee is delighted to announce that its rescheduled Women’s Blind Football Camp and Tournament will now take place in Hereford, Great Britain, from 14-18 April 2022.

The camp and tournament will be held in partnership with the English Football Association at the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford, the venue for many major blind football events including the 2010 IBSA Blind Football World Championships and the 2015 IBSA Blind Football European Championships.

This event, originally scheduled for July 2021 but postponed due to the global health situation, is part of the committee’s development project in Europe and is supported by UEFA. As a result, while the committee will welcome applications to participate from all parts of the world, priority will be given to European applicants.

The camp and games are open to visually impaired female players, female and male coaches, referees, guides, support staff, etc., from all IBSA member countries worldwide. While open to both men and women, IBSA strongly encourages countries to register female participants.

IBSA will cover the cost of local transport, accommodation and meals for all participants from Europe, while those attending from outside Europe will be asked to cover their own expenses.

The provisional programme is as follows:

Thursday 14 April 2022 – arrival all participants

Friday 15 April 2022 – training camp

Saturday 16 April 2022 – training camp

Sunday 17 April 2022 – tournament

Monday 18 April – departure all participants

Ulrich Pfisterer, Chair of the IBSA Football Committee, welcomed the announcement: “The COVID-19 situation made it difficult for us to kick off Women’s Blind Football all over the world during the last two years.”

“The IBSA Women’s Blind Football Camp will be the first event next year, the first of many very important ones to follow such as the inaugural Women’s European Championships and the first-ever Women’s World Championships in 2023. I am sure that with the engagement of the FA and the great facilities in Hereford we will see a very successful IBSA Women’s Blind Football Camp.”

The English FA was also happy to confirm the camp and game. Lauren Asquith from the Para Football Women’s Talent Pathway Directorate set out the FA’s aims:

“We’re absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to host the IBSA Women’s Blind Football Training Camp in 2022. After COVID put a halt on the initial 2021 dates it’s been refreshing to see the development of the female game push on across the globe.”

“The camp and tournament come at a timely opportunity within England with preparations for the first England Blind Women’s Football Team looking to make their World Games debut on home soil in 2023.”
