President’s Blog: Centralized VI Classification Service
Date: August 16, 2024

Some weeks ago IBSA received its copy of the IPC consultative document for the centralization for the classification services of blind and visual impaired athletes.
Having reviewed the proposal IBSA’s leadership indicated its acceptance of the principle and indicated as much at a recent meeting in Bonn.
Following the Paris Paralympic Games IBSA will consult wider with its sports, Members and others about the detail of the proposal and report back to IPC accordingly.
IPC will continue to consult with entities other than IBSA (Para sports inside and outside of IPC and non-Para sports) who all require a single, robust system of classification for their blind and visually impaired athletes.
In parallel IBSA had been reviewing its own classification processes and in the coming weeks will announce the appointments of a Head of IBSA Classification and a Classification Manager as its representatives to work with IPC and others on this necessary initiative.
