Results Haninge Open 2014 – Gold for Finland and Slovenia

Date: June 12, 2014

Category: Showdown

Last week the 10th Haninge Open took place in Sweden. As always the organisation of the tournament was immaculate and during all three days the schedule went smoothly without delays. 36 men and 20 women from more than a dozen nations competed on six tables.

Elzbieta Mielczarek, Poland, and Hanna Vilmi, Finland, made it to the finals in the ladies category. Ela put up a good battle but in the end Hanna's fine technique and also her experience made the difference. Surely these two women will play a major role in the upcoming European Championships.

The men's competition was fierce since many of the top European top 10 players where taking part. Nevertheless, Leander Sachs, Netherlands, who had already won the Milan Open earlier this year, made it to the finals again. There he met Peter Zidar, Slovenia, the reigning World Champion. Peter caught one of his best days – his game was extra-terrestrial, hard, fast, variable and precise. Leander never got a chance to push his game and the match ended with a clear and deserved victory for Peter. Congratulations!
