Category: General
On June 3, 2025, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) confirmed the medal program for the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. Three sports under the governance of the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) — goalball, judo, and men’s blind football — were included in the list.
IBSA highly values this decision as a recognition of years of dedicated effort by athletes with visual impairments, coaches, referees, administrators, and national federations, as well as the high organizational standards of IBSA-sanctioned competitions.
In recent years, IBSA has focused special attention on developing women’s blind football. Although this discipline was not included in the LA28 program, it has been the subject of active discussion and consideration by the IPC. This reflects the growing potential and significance of women’s football for visually impaired athletes worldwide. Thanks to international tournaments, the expansion of participating countries, and strong support from national federations, IBSA will continue its determined efforts to include women’s blind football in the 2032 Paralympic Games in Brisbane.
IBSA President Ilgar Rahimov stated:
“We are proud that three of our sports have been included in the LA28 medal program. This is the result of many years of collaborative and intense work. Regarding women’s blind football — we now have a real opportunity for its inclusion in the 2032 Games in Brisbane. We will continue to develop this discipline, support teams, organize international tournaments, and strengthen our partnership with the IPC. It is a matter of equality, fairness, and the advancement of sport for all. Also we don’t forget our other sport disciplines, we work on this that they grow to paralympic sports level”
IBSA expresses sincere gratitude to everyone involved in this process: sports committees, national federations, international partners, coaches, athletes, and IPC colleagues.
“Thank you to all who believe in the power of sport and the spirit of the Paralympic Movement. Onward to new achievements!” emphasized the IBSA President.
