IBSA Euro Blind Football Challenge Cup kicks off in Thessaloniki

Date: May 5, 2016

Category: Football

Today sees the start of the IBSA Euro Challenge Cup 2016, a development tournament for emerging national blind football teams. The event is taking place in Greece, at the same time as the traditional Thessaloniki International Blind Football Tournament.

Six teams are in the running for the IBSA Euro Challenge Cup, with one last-minute change in the line-up. Belarus was unable to travel and their place has been taken by a Russian under-18 national team.

Georgia, Romania and Russia U-18 are in group A while Hungary, Moldova and Albania make up group B.
Action begins today with Romania and Russia U-18 kicking off the tournament, followed by Moldova vs Albania. Albania then faces Hungary in the last match today.

The Thessaloniki International Blind Football Tournament started yesterday evening with surprises. Hosts Pirsos Blind Sports Club defeated Russia 1-0 and Girondins de Bordeaux beat Turkey 1-0.

Full results from today’s fixtures in both tournaments will be posted later today.

The IBSA Euro Challenge Cup is part of the European Blind Football Development Project run by IBSA thanks to financial support from UEFA.

IBSA is pleased to acknowledge support from Goalfix Sports in donating equipment for the IBSA Euro Challenge Cup.
