Goalball, showdown and judo events added to IBSA calendar

New goalball, showdown and judo events have been included in the IBSA competition calendar, including an opportunity for goalball officials in Asia and two tournaments in Lithuania.

Here's a summary of the new events:


Brazil is to host the 5th International Judo Grand Prix Infraero and training camp in Rio de Janeiro in early March (4th – 10th). Countries may choose only to take part in the competitionon Saturday March 5th, or to participate in both the tournament and the camp.

Later on in the year, the Lithuanian capital Vilnius will host an international tournament and training camp from July 22nd to 26th. It will be one of the last chances to compete internationally before judokas head to Brazil for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

The tournament and training camp are hosted by the Lithuanian Blind Sports Federation. First entries are due by April 15th 2016. Click here for the invitation and first entry form, and for more info contact [email protected].


The ASEAN Goalball Federation (AGF), in collaboration with the Sports Association for the Blind of Thailand (SABT), is hosting a level 1 referes' clinic in Nakhon Sawan province in Thailand early next month.

The clinic will take place from January 10th to 16th and you can view or download the registration form and invitation here.

Kaunas, Lithuania, will be the venue for an international showdown tournament in June next year. The tournament runs from June 16th to 19th and first entries should be sent to the Lithuanian Blind Sports Federation ([email protected]) by March 1st 2016.
