Blind Football Central American Championships Guatemala 2017 – match day 1 report

Costa Rica and Guatemala sit at the top of the group following victories over Nicaragua and Honduras on match day one of the IBSA Blind Football Central American Championships in Guatemala.
Hosts Guatemala defeated Honduras 2-1 in the opening match thanks to two goals by Jorge Rodas. Honduras pulled one back through a late strike by Fredy Oliva, but it wasn’t enough in the end and the hosts took the three points.

In the afternoon match, Costa Rica faced few problems in beating Nicaragua 7-1. Daniel Contreras and Esteban Chavez hit hattricks and Ángel Flores struck one, and Eligio Antonio Olivas Zavala was on target to score Nicaragua’s consolation goal.
Costa Rica tops the table on goal difference and Guatemala sits second.

The IBSA Blind Football Central American Championships are hosted by the Guatemalan Committee for the Blind and Deaf. The winners of the tournament will qualify for the IBSA Blind Football World Championships in Madrid, Spain, in June 2018.
