August 2016 IBSA Goalball World Rankings published

Date: August 31, 2016

Category: Goalball

If you expected that there hasn’t been much movement in the rankings lists with no competition this last month you would be right.

Lithuania has lost its top spot to Brazil again in the men’s list, dropping to second behind the South Americans.  The other top 10 teams effectively stayed in the same order as they were in July.  The top ten teams in the men’s category are Brazil, Lithuania, Iran, China, Turkey, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovenia, USA and Ukraine.

Further down the table, UAE drop from 24th to 35th.  Oman slips to 46th from 37th and Venezuela drop to 55th (47th).  Some of the teams at the very bottom of the table have moved around as the Committee has agreed to slightly change the order by which teams are sorted.  The date that teams last played is now considered ahead of average goal difference and average goals per game.

The Women’s list has a few changes with Guatemala dropping out of the top ten for only the second time since April 2015.  The new top ten women’s teams are China, Brazil, Japan, Turkey, USA, Australia, Russia, Canada, Israel and Germany.  For Germany, this is their second time in the top ten and 10th is their equal best position that they have ever held.

Nicaragua has dropped from 12th to 24th and there are other smaller changes in positions at the bottom due to the changes in sorting.
