The Argentinean Blind Sports Federation (FADeC – Federación Argentina de deportes para Ciegos) will today hold a press conference at the headquarters of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) to launch the IBSA Blind Football Americas Cup, to be held in Santa Fe, Argentina, from September 19th to 29th.

The IBSA Copa América is the official IBSA continental championship in blind football for the Americas region and is a qualifying event for the 2014 IBSA Blind Football World Championships.

The press conference takes place at 18:00 Argentinean time at the AFA HQ and will feature appearances from the Murciélagos (Bats), as the Argentinean blind football national team is affectionately known, as well as leading figures from AFA.

The 2013 IBSA Copa América is hosted by Santa Fe City Council, Universidad Nacional del Litoral, where matches will be played, and FADeC.

A record eight national teams have signed up to play in the 2013 IBSA Copa América – Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Colombia, Uruguay, Mexico, Chile and Peru.

Domingo Latela, FADeC President, who recently visited Santa Fe to oversee preparations for the championships, has high hopes for the event: “They’re doing a great job [in Santa Fe]. It’s not easy to arrange an eight-team tournament, but I can honestly say we will witness a top quality Copa América.”

Latela added, “The best teams in the continent will be there, and there are going to be a lot of great games, with the added bonus of qualification for the world championships at stake.”
